- Being told “no” is okay
At my school’s Freshman Orientation, the professors and student speakers placed a large emphasis on not taking “no” personally. “When a project isn’t successful, that doesn’t mean you aren’t,” they’d tell us. I would think to myself, foolishly, that their message would rarely apply to me, or any of us. I realized I was wrong when I began applying for jobs. When everyone is over-qualified, and most people would like to make money, there will be someone who is told “no”. I was one of them, more than once. What I can now do, since coming to college, is to accept a failure for what it is instead of declaring myself one, and move beyond that.
Look for another "Life Lesson" soon.
